Frequently asked Questions

Colon hydrotherapy, also called colonics or colonic irrigation, is a gentle cleansing of the
large intestine using warm, purified water. On the open system, a small, single-use
rectal tube is inserted into the recturm. Water flows slowly to hydrate the colon, and
waste is released naturally into a basin. This system allows the colon to contract and
release at its own pace, often making the process more comfortable and empowering
than other methods.

  •  Privacy and control: You can insert the tube yourself if you choose and maintain control throughout.
  •  Comfort: Water flows are gravity-fed and gentle, avoiding pressure build-up.
  •  Natural release: Your body eliminates waste when ready, much like a natural bowel movement.
  •  Observation: You can see what’s being released if you choose, which many clients find motivating.
  •   Extended sessions: The open system allows for a longer, more thorough cleanse without interruption.
Clients often describe feeling lighter, less bloated, and more energetic. Colonics may
support:
  •  Relief from occasional constipation
  •  Easier digestion and reduced bloating
  •  Kickstarting new dietary or detox regimens
  •  A greater sense of overall well-being (brain fog, energy levels, skin conditions)

At Colonics of Atlanta, our clients also appreciate the private, spa-like environment and
professional guidance that make the experience safe and relaxing.
Yes, when performed by trained staff with FDA-registered equipment and single-use,
disposable supplies. The open system uses gravity-fed water, no pumps or pressure,
reducing the risk of discomfort. Our Colon Hydrotherapists are trained to ensure your
safety and comfort, but the session itself is self-regulated by you, which adds an extra
layer of safety.
Clients typically feel a gentle flow of water, a sensation of fullness, and then natural
release. Many describe it as similar to a regular bowel movement, just more thorough.
The open system allows you to release whenever your body is ready, minimizing
cramping.
Appointments are scheduled for 60-minutes with time on the machine from about 45–55
minutes depending on the session type purchased. The open system allows for a
flexible session length without pressure.
We recommend starting with a series for the most thorough cleanse:
  •  2-pack (within 24–72 hours) to jumpstart elimination.
  •  3-pack (two sessions close together + one 7–14 days later) for deeper results.
Many clients then schedule maintenance monthly or seasonally.
  •  Hydrate well 24 hours before your session.
  •  Eat light, avoid fried foods, heavy meats, and alcohol.
  •  Arrive in comfortable clothing. Bring a sweatshirt if you get cold easily.
  •  Use the restroom before your session if needed.
Clients often report feeling lighter, less bloated, and more energized. Some notice improved bowel regularity. Be sure to drink water, eat fiber-rich meals, and listen to you rbody afterward.
Not at all. With the open system, you insert the tube yourself and eliminate naturally into
the basin. There is no odor, and you remain covered and private. Our therapists are
there to guide and support you, not to intrude.
Some bacteria leave with stool, but your gut naturally replenishes. We recommend
supporting healthy flora with fiber and fermented foods. You can also take a probiotic
after your session if desired.
Your liver and kidneys detox your body every day. Colonics aren’t a cure-all, but they
can support regular elimination, hydration, and comfort. We focus on what the
therapy can do: help your body release waste naturally, leaving you feeling refreshed.
This condition is prevalent in all civilized societies, and particularly in the USA. Common
signs include: headaches, backaches, constipation, fatigue, bad breath, body odor,
irritability, confusion, skin problems, abdominal gas, bloating, diarrhea, sciatic pain, and so forth. As you can see, intestinal toxicity is a part of many peoples everyday
experience.
While the lungs, skin, kidneys and liver also serve to eliminate toxins, people have
experienced throughout history that when they ensure that the colon is cleansed and
healed, the well-being of the whole body is greatly enhanced.
Colonic hydrotherapy has been found to be the most effective process available to
accomplish this work quickly and easily.
An enema only reaches the rectum and lower part of the colon (8-12 inches), whereas
with colon hydrotherapy the entire length of the colon (the large intestinal tract
approximately 5 to 7 feet in length) is reached.
Enemas generally use higher pressure and often send the colon into spasm, thus the
minimal fills and the extreme discomfort. Colon hydrotherapy, utilizing lower pressures
and adeptly controlled temperatures, is many more times effective.
We use triple filtered water which passes through sediment filter, carbon filter and UV
light which provides further sterilization and activation of the water. This kind of water is
capable of absorbing and flushing more toxins out of the colon because of its drawing
effect on solid particles, chemicals and other matter.
Certainly. You can work just as you would after a regular bowel movement.
Colonics of Atlanta uses the Angel of Water open system, an FDA-registered device
designed for client privacy, comfort, and effectiveness. It’s one of the most advanced
and trusted open systems available.
Yes! We specialize in guiding first-time clients. Your therapist will explain the process,
answer questions, and ensure you feel at ease.
Yes, many clients choose to. It’s up to your comfort level. If you feel uneasy, you may
reschedule.
We do not recommend colonics for pregnant women. If just trying go ahead!
  • All tubes are single-use and disposable.
  • The system is thoroughly sanitized between clients.
  • You remain covered and in control the entire session.
  • We maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism.
No, colonics are not habit forming. This is a common question. The confusion lies in the fact that many laxatives, due to their overstimulating, or over-irritating, the intestines create a dependency. The reason colon hydrotherapy is not habit forming is that the pressures used to gentlyflush the colon with water are lower than what the body normally uses to move materialalong. It has been estimated that the body generally produces between 3 and 3.5 pounds persquare inch of pressure to move material along the colon. If the pressure used in a colonic exceeded the body’s normal pressure used to movematerial along it could weaken the muscles of the colon thus creating a dependency. However this is NOT the case.Per the FDA the pressure used during a session may not exceed 2.25 pounds persquare inch. The pressures used are generally between 0.25 and 1.25 pounds persquare inch. If, during a fill the body decides to release a lot of material the pressurecan spike. However, the equipment we use has a protective mechanism built into it todivert water directly into the sewage system if the pressure ever gets to 2 pounds per
square inch. Thus, the internal pressure never exceeds the FDA requirement.
It depends on your insurance plan. The best success we have seen is with insurance
plans that include a yearly stipend for alternative health care to be used at the
subscriber’s discretion. These stipends are intended to cover health related therapies
such as colon hydrotherapy, nutrition counseling, and massage.

Some folks are provided by their company with something called a “Flex Spending” account. Though not insurance, these accounts let you put aside pre-tax dollars from your income to spend as you like towards your health. This is a good use for those dollars and equates to almost a 20% discount! The Flex Spending account must be used by the end of the year or you lose the money. Be sure to check with your employer
to see if you have access to a Flex Spending account.

Additionally we have seen success in insurance covering colon hydrotherapy when it is specifically prescribed as “medically necessary” by a referring ND or MD.

Please be aware, however, that the Colonics of Atlanta does not submit insurance claims to insurance companies. We leave that to you, the subscriber. Upon request, we will provide you with receipts, procedure codes and chart notes for you to use in the submission process.

Ask “How do I get reimbursed for receiving this procedure?”. From experience we have
found that getting a diagnosis code from a doctor as part of a referral or prescription for
this service puts you in the best place possible. If you need a referral to a colonic-
friendly doctor please let us know.
Tipping for excellent service is appreciated but not expected.
100% of all tips go directly to the colon hyrdrotherapist.
